Highland beef is a healthy alternative to the beef found in most supermarkets. It is about 40% lower in cholesterol and fat than most other beef. Highlands grow a thick coat of hair in cold weather, rather than the layer of fat that most other cattle breeds develop. Locally raised Highland cattle are usually free of hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides found in mass-produced meat. Northwest cattle are usually grass-fed and are not fattened with chemical additives. Contact one of the beef producers listed below for the details of each operation. Enjoy!
If you do not see a local breeder listed, be sure to check our members list for a Highland breeder near you, and don't hesitate to contact them. Many breeders with only a few animals find that they can sell all their beef without needing to advertise. If they don't have any Highland beef available they may know someone else who does.
